60 second interview with Mark Turrell, Local Director at Metro Bank
What benefits do you feel there are to being a member of The County Club, Guildford?
There are numerous benefits to being a member of The County Club from both a social and business perspective. The County Club offers great facilities to socialise and entertain contacts, clients and friends. The central Guildford location is a huge plus and the club offers a fantastic opportunity for me to get away from the buzz of the office, either to have a break or do some work in a different environment. It’s also given me the opportunity to talk to and socialise with other members I wouldn’t have otherwise met. I’ve had the ability to expand my social and professional group with little effort and hold great conversations in a relaxed and personal environment.
Can you tell us about Metro Bank?
Metro Bank first opened its doors in the summer of 2010, the first high street bank to open in the UK in over 100 years. Our business model is based on providing unparalleled levels of service and convenience. This is why our stores are open 7 days a week, and from 8am to 8pm on weekdays. We offer a super-quick account opening, on the spot card printing, a 24/7 London-based contact centre, just to list a few of our innovations. And we aren’t just a retail bank either, from sole traders to large corporations, we provide a range of competitive business banking solutions via Local Business Managers and Directors. We continue to grow from our first store is 2010 and we currently have 42 stores across London and the South East. We also achieved a London Stock Exchange listing in March this year and currently sit in the top 200 companies in the UK. But our plan is simple, provide high levels of service, continue to create Fans of Metro Bank and grow through referral and recommendation.
Do you think The County Club offers a great networking environment?
Do you use it for this purpose?
The County Club is certainly a great environment to network in. I’ll often just drop into the Club, and find myself speaking to many different members at the bar, both familiar faces and others who I’ve never met before, often from different generations in an informal environment making it easy to relax and conversation to flow.
The networking dining table is another great way to gain an introduction to County Club networking, with the table designated for those who want to connect with other like-minded individuals and this has been a very good source of introductions for me.
What’s your highlight of being a member of The County Club?
It’s hard to pick just one as I’ve enjoyed all of the events I have I would say one of my highlights of being a member was attending the World Cup Rugby Lunch with John Inverdale. Another is The County Club Golf Day, this is a very enjoyable event and always offers great networking opportunities.
