Last month we were lucky enough to sit down with one of the youngest members of The County Club, Sophie Campbell of Downs Solicitors. Downs has been operating in Dorking since 1836 with offices in Cobham and Godalming, as well as operating a serviced office in London. Although Sophie is based in the Godalming office, she travels to London several times a week. She specialises in Wills, Probate, Powers of Attorney, Trusts and Estate/Tax Planning. She explains “I advise individuals, families and trustees on methods of wealth management including strategic tax planning, mitigating inheritance tax and capital gains tax liabilities and protecting clients’ personal wealth.”
Having worked in law firms for 7 years, Sophie has been at Downs Solicitors since 2014 and has recently qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive. “It’s the highlight of my career” she says “Downs have always been really supportive of my education…” Although young, at 24, Sophie has experience in dealing with both UK and non-UK domiciled clients and work closely with Partner, William Edwards, who heads up the Private Client department in Godalming.
William is also a member of the County Club and he supported Sophie’s membership application to. “My first introduction to The County club was through Alex Vinall, managing director of Air Social Marketing Agency” Sophie says, and it was Alex who later proposed her as a member, supported by William Edwards. It’s the personal touch that The County Club provides that Sophie enjoys so much, “It’s so exciting to be greeted by Tchavdar with a glass of my favourite wine as I walk through the door”, she feels a “fully integrated” member of The County Club already, despite not being a member long. On top of this, she enjoys the “great food, great drinks and great company” The County Club provides. Food is one of Sophie’s passions and she would love to go to India to try authentic Indian cuisine.
On a more professional level Sophie attributes The County Club as a providing an excellent venue to network “I think it’s a good base to meet people and to bring clients” and, as a professional who often has to travel for work “it’s a good stopping ground in between meetings”.
We at The County Club are very glad we can provide this service for Sophie, and wish her the best of luck as a newly qualified lawyer!
