The 10th Anniversary of the prestigious annual County Club Charity Golf Day By James Stewart-Smith of Charles Stanley
The sun shone majestically on the greens and fairways of the West Hill golf course for the 10th Anniversary of the prestigious annual County Club Charity Golf Day in aid of the Guildford Street Angels.
Fortified by the usual hearty lunch, we heard about the wonderful work the Guildford Street Angels perform from Rod Boreham their Town Centre Chaplain.
At 1.30pm the shot gun hooter started the proceedings on this difficult and challenging course. David Hargreaves was the referee on the 9th hole for the hole-in-one competition, and the £10 fee went to the raffle draw.
By 6.00pm the various teams made their way back to the club house for some well-earned drinks and nibbles.
Bidding on the Silent Auction began in earnest and I would like to thank all those who contributed, as the selection of lots on offer was truly amazing.
The prize giving was conducted by our Chairman, Howard House, with Jeff Widdup winning the nearest-the-pin prize and Chris Bell winning the straightest drive. Embarrassingly the team prize was won by Charles Stanley No1 team, with Stevens & Bolton a close second.
This enjoyable event raised just over £8,000 for the Guildford Street Angels which is a very worthy cause indeed.
