Street Angels - Keeping Surrey Safer

The County Club Guildford has nominated Street Angels as its chosen charity for 2016 in an effort to ensure a safer Surrey.

In 2014 The County Club raised over £20,000 for Headway Surrey, an incredible charity that supports people with brain injuries across the county. They provide services such as cognitive rehabilitation, working from their resource centre as well as helping people to re-establish a meaningful and inclusive life.

During 2015 The County Club held multiple events including a County Club Car Rally and a Golf Day at West Hill, this golfing event alone managed to raise £8,500. The proceeds of these events were for their previously nominated charity of the year, ABF - The Soldiers Charity. This tied in with Guildford playing host to Armed Forces Day in June 2015.

"My ambition for the Charity would be that it is no longer necessary! That said, realistically it would be to go on affecting people that seek help. Doing our upmost to make them feel safe and welcome and I believe we do our part in creating that." - Rod Boreham, the Town Centre Chaplain

Rod Boreham says "It's a real privilege to have been nominated and chosen as the County Club charity of the year. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we have been given, it makes us feel very special and it's not taken for granted."

Street Angels help vulnerable people late at night throughout the town. Whether intoxicated or unable to find their way home, Street Angels offer their services to help those in need. They have a good partnership with clubs and pubs in the local vicinity and work closely with the police and paramedics where needed, all keeping connected through radios. A 29% reduction in crime and anti-social behavior was also recorded whilst Street Angels were present.

The County Club Guildford functions for which it was founded: a social club where professionals of all shades and political opinions can meet. The Club also takes an active role in community life in Guildford and Surrey, working with businesses and the Council and raising money for many good causes.
